Yesterday I went on YouTube to watch the Mars Rover landing. (I am that fast). While there, I saw one version that claimed it was HD so I tried to watch that. It turned out that it had no sound but the picture quality was good so i stayed though it took a long time buffering.
As I watched in small chunks, I almost got scared that my whole basis of faith was going to be overturned. The whole drama of the Curiosity's casing coming off, it being parachuted and all was fascinating as I remembered a particular book my husband bought second hand in Anambra in 2008. In the book, the author brought 3 things to bear: all major religions (I remember Christianity, Islam, Hinduism) claim the object of worship came down from the sky and had gone and will come back/send someone. Second was that whoever had come is most likely responsible for Earth being how it is; is a being with higher intelligence who must have also bestowed some intelligence on those it came into contact with, leading to them being revered. Third was UFO sightings/reports.
I only scanned through the book then but I garnered enough to know the man meant to prove intelligent being(s) visited Earth and promised to be back. He even cited the part of the bible where Elijah was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire. I don't know 'what's up' with all that but I know that watching the Mars Rover Landing was like the man's book was made into film and I was watching the trailer.
It also felt like OMG, he could be right! It could be that 'beings' came into Earth in fancy rides and, and, and... What if they really came from better civilizations? What if their world was becoming uninhabitable and they were searching for other places but could not make it back to Earth and got destroyed? What if they really did help us with technological/scientific advances? What if there are Martians and they see the Mars Rover as god? Then I came to my senses.
