Exciting things are happening! I registered for a basic course in pattern-making, design and cutting. My dreams are coming true and now I can sew like the best of them! Ha ha ha. I've just attended two classes but my hopes are high yet. My journey to entrepreneurship, that I have been dreaming about since 2005, is finally taking off and I'm not stuck with "free hand". I registered with GZK. She's an amazing teacher and very patient. I have been looking around for long, and apart from Instituto Di Moda Burgo Nigeria, there's no other place I would rather train. Er, maybe with Mai Atafo but I fear I would be ogling him in class all day. I will learn zilch, nothing.
Now, two classes later, I can make a basic bodice block.
I tried unsuccessfully to do that online for weeks! Nothing beats a small, interactive learning environment.
Now is to start counting the days till Emmy Collins comes to Lagos to give that talk on fashion. I missed it in December, it happened in Abuja this February but I made him promise me on twitter not to cancel the Lagos comeback in April (nor May, I think). I can even attend any of Mai Atafo's 'Fashion Conversations' without fear that I won't understand a thing.
I have hopes blog, very soon you will be advertising my good works because I am going into 'ready to wear'. Can't stand the thought of sewing ankara all my life or waiting for someone to walk in to discuss what they want for hours before we can get a move on, no. Already researching my favourite materials, you need to see @Designersmuse's fabric collection! Chai! Lovely, lovely fabrics that I have been dreaming about since I went there... They are lovely, I tell you. Hope!
