The Church of Christ in 2020 (1)

Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with

the church that is in their house.

               - Paul, an apostle of Christ.

First-century Christians were probably better aware of the personal nature of their faith than Christians today.

The early church as described in the Book of Acts was a gathering of small units of believers who came "together and had all things in common" (Acts 2:44).

Paul of the Bible once referred to a church by the name of the specific person whose house was used as a meeting point - "The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house" (1 Corinthians 16:19).

Megachurches became a thing much later after these people and had survived for long but we see how even the biggest denominations (in Nigeria) have dedicated cell fellowship networks.

Our present circumstances call for us to devolve to cell network structure and strengthen each point much like the body distributes nutrients from the stomach to every point in the body. Our current situation is a blessing in disguise much as the persecution that scattered the first gathering of believers in Jerusalem ensured the gospel was spread abroad, even up to Africa (by the 4th century, it was the official religion in Ethiopia).

The church of God is fine and will always be fine.

Our present circumstances mean we begin to see more people explore their innate gifts and endowments in different settings, especially for introverts.

More people feel their sense of belonging renewed as they lose the 'crowd' inhibition.

More people ask pertinent questions and receive answers that breathe life into them.

More fractured relationships are healed.

More people are closely discipled.

More people receive healing for their emotional troubles.

We begin to see better, closer interactions within the household of faith as we drop superficiality in favour of deep, loving, respectful relationships.

Couples who previously insisted on attending different churches begin to sit home and fellowship as one, increasing their points of cohesion.

Spouses who had been believing God for renewal of love begin to see results.

Parenting, especially of older children, begin to move beyond the provision of basic needs.

Peace reigns supreme in our homes and communities.

We believe God to lead our scientists in the direction of desired solutions and drugs for Coronavirus, Cancer, Ebola virus, and others.

We pray for protection for all front liners, health workers, and caregivers.

We pray for more wisdom for the populace to obey healthcare instructions.

We pray for your peace over us all.

It is so in the mighty name of Jesus.
